The town gained its independence from Boston in 1705 and has stayed independent even after the annexation of its’ neighbors Allston and Brighton. Despite being independent from Boston, Brookline has many social, economic, and political ties to Boston, as well as a public transportation system that ties into Boston. Many citizens commute to Boston for work. The town offers shops, restaurants, and open spaces. Brookline also offers exceptional education.
